Hero by Perry MooreMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
While I first rated this book a 5 after my first read of it I later thought it over and must change it … to a 4.5 star actually.
While I agree that the story is at times dramatic and over the top, the story is written through the eyes of a teenage boy. Thom is a typical teenage boy, except he lives in a world with superheroes and his father who used to be one of the greatest heroes. Oh and also Thom has powers.
What I loved about this story is that Perry has written a well developed characters rooster and a well thought out main character.
While Thom at first is mostly focused on his own situation, what people think of him and only his problems he do end up thinking of other people than himself. The Author has a good way of writing characters which feels genuine.
But I can admit that the language at times were a bit hard to understand, there were times when I had a hard time understanding what just happened. But it didn’t hurt the overall story and I actually finished the book within 24 hours. And I loved every moment of the experience.
I just found another favorite of young adults’ authors, one of my other favorites is Becky Albertalli who also writes well developed and likeable teenagers.
If you liked Perry Moore’s writing I would recommend you give Becky Albertalli a chance to blow your mind.
All in all I enjoyed this book and I hope Moore ends up writing more in the future.
